Carol Ann Bard
2/27/1938 – 5/20/2025
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we share the sad news of the passing of Carol Ann Bard on May 20, 2025.
She died peacefully at home surrounded by her family at West Gilgo Beach.
Carol was born in Queens, NY to Harold and Annette Borst in 1938. She graduated from Andrew Jackson High School, class of 1955, and got her bachelor’s degree at Adelphi and her master’s degree at Hofstra. She taught in the Freeport Public School system in NY for years and later at Norwood Public School in NJ.
She served as an elder in the Norwood Presbyterian Church and on the Board of Directors at West Gilgo Beach.
Carol was married to Nathan Bard for 57 years and was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
In 1944, her parents bought a house at West Gilgo Beach when she and her sister Ellen were 6 and 4 years old. She was a beloved member of the community, teaching generations of kids to swim in the bay, and she always carried lollipops in her beach bag for all of the kids.
She loved swimming, reading, knitting, painting, cooking and spending time at the beach with her family and friends.
Carol is survived by her husband, Nathan, her sister Ellen Fessler, her children Stephen (Laura), Mindy (Brian), Kerry (Erik) and Danny (Carrie), and her 10 amazing grandchildren – David, Emilie, Andy, Ben, Charlie, Alex, Noah, Courtney, Katelyn, and Jeremy, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The viewing will be held at the Bellmore Funeral Home, 2340 Jerusalem Ave, North Bellmore, NY, on May 31 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. There will be a service at the chapel at West Gilgo Beach on June 2 at 10 a.m.
