Helen Marie (Wohn) Gillen Flanders, 95, was born September 25, 1929, to the late Frederick Wohn and Marie (DePerry) Wohn-Bell.
Helen was the beloved wife of the late Thomas Joseph Gillen Jr. to whom she was married for 50 years until Tom’s death in 1999. Together they raised their four children in Copiague and Greenlawn on Long Island.
Helen was the loving mother of Christine Anne (Donald) Jackson; Thomas J. Gillen III (Joann); Lynn Marie (Michael) Paolillo; and Margaret Louise (Craig) Hess.
Helen was the dearest grandmother of nine and the proud great-grandmother of three.
Helen is survived by her husband Robert G. Flanders to whom she was married August 29, 2003, in Greenlawn, NY.
She was graciously welcomed into the Flanders family by Bob’s children and grandchildren.
She is also remembered by her sister-in-law Elaine Gillen and many nieces and nephews.
Helen was a communicant at St. Francis of Assisi RC Church in Greenlawn, NY, where she was a Eucharistic Minister and a volunteer for the Saint Vincent DePaul Society.
Helen served her community for many years as an election worker. She was an executive board member of the Huntington Club and was an alumna of Baldwin High School.
Helen enjoyed travel, family gatherings, holiday celebrations and sharing her many talents with her family and friends. Helen was cherished as the loving and understanding nucleus of her family.
