In Loving Memory of Sarah “Skippy” Pugliese Luisi
Sarah Pugliese Luisi, 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 17, 2023. She was born on April 21, 1931, to Dominick and Theresa Pugliese. Throughout her life, Sarah touched the hearts of many and left an indelible mark on the world around her.
Sarah was a beloved mother, cherished by her children and their spouses Terry and Jimmie Ward, Delores and Michael Galgano, Tony and Jeanne Melio, Dominic and Diane Luisi, Ricky Luisi and his wife Vilma Latalatti, and Charles Luisi. Her grandchildren include Dawn DiResta, Michael Galgano, Sam Ward, Mikey Luisi, Nicky Luisi, Tony Melio, Christopher Luisi and Jessica Diaz. She also had four great grandchildren, Nicholas DiResta, Micah Diaz, Riley Diaz and Madison Diaz. She was predeceased by her oldest daughter, Linda Straka Sorriento. Her love and devotion knew no bounds, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Sarah had a passion for people, which brought her immense joy and fulfillment. She loved to cook, especially for family gatherings. Sarah was a New Yorker true and true with a fabulous sense of fashion and was always impeccably dressed. Sarah loved listening to music and enjoyed all the crooners from back in the day, her favorite being Frank Sinatra. For nearly a decade she served as President of the Hempstead Uniondale Senior Center. Serving the senior community was a position that brought her so much joy. The friendships she fostered and the memories she made during those years and beyond were always in her heart.
Sarah was a kind and compassionate woman who always had a smile on her face and in her heart. Sarah had a gift for making people feel heard and valued, and her warm smile could brighten even the darkest of days. She taught us the importance of cherishing each moment and finding joy in the simple pleasures of life. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and resilience. Her memory will forever be etched in our hearts, and her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us.
A memorial service to celebrate Sarah’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 27 @ 2PM at Bellmore Funeral Home, 2340 Jerusalem Avenue, North Bellmore, NY 11710.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Sarah’s honor to the ASPCA or the charity of your choice.
