Philip Scaduto was born in 1933 in Partanna , Sicily, the youngest if 9 siblings. He immigrated to New York with his mother at age 14. He completed high school and embarked on what was to become 67 year long work career. First as a tailor in the garment district and then as ‘Phil, the Barber’ at his shop on Jerusalem Ave.
Phil married Adeline Mattina in 1955. Their son Joseph was born in 1959. They moved to Bellmore in 1964. They became parishioners of St. Barnabas, where Phil ushered for 25 years. A second son, Vincent, was born in 1968.
After Adeline passed away in 2010 Phil continued to work alongside son Joseph at his barber shop and toiling in his vegetable garden.
He married Christina Keller in 2013. They travelled to Sicily, his first time back in 70 years. They could be seen walking, in sync, in their neighborhood daily.
Philip is survived by Christina, his son Joseph and his two children; Michael and Nicole, son Vincent, his wife Maureen and several nieces and nephews.
Phil the Barber was loved for his friendliness and his warm smile.
