OBITUARY
Jesse O Hunt
10/21/1948 – 8/6/2022
Jesse Oberle Hunt, 73, died in July 2022 in Freeport, New York. Jesse was born October 21, 1948, in Queens, New York. He is survived by an older brother, James “Shep” Hunt (Port Orchard, Washington), a younger sister, Noelle Gebel (Edmond, Oklahoma) and other cousins, nieces, and nephews. Jesse graduated from Douglas MacArthur High School (Levittown, New York) in 1966 and Syracuse University in 1970 with a degree in political science. Jesse loved his country and proudly served in the New York Army National Guard for 30 years, including service during the September 11 attack in New York City. He was a long-time employee of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation, working primarily at Jones Beach State Park. He also served faithfully as a member of the state employees union. He loved his church, Bellmore Presbyterian Church in Bellmore, New York, and served most recently as a church trustee. (His favorite project was refinishing the church pews.) Swimming, chess, and visiting the Freeport Public Library were among his favorite activities. He was an avid reader. Growing up he loved to sing; during high school he was lead singer for the Caravans, a local rock band, and enjoyed starring in high school musicals. A devoted family member, he also kept in touch with friends from high school and was a caring person who loved to serve others.
Please join us for a celebration of Jesse’s life on October 1, at Bellmore Presbyterian Church 2740 Martin Avenue Bellmore, NY 11710.
